The first Biannual Research Newsletter of Govt. Dental College, Kottayam was released by the Principal Dr. V.T. Beena on 26/07/2022.
A CDE with Live demonstration titled – ‘Decoding the pulp-an insight in to Pediatric endodontics’ - A Distinct Dental education program was organized by Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Government Dental College, Kottayam on 28th and 29th of June 2022. The Registration of the participants started at 8.30 AM which was followed by the inaugural ceremony. The CDE Program was inaugurated by Dr S Mohan, Vice Principal, Govt. Dental college, Kottayam. Dr. Kannan VP, Professor and Head, Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry gave the presidential address. Dr Jeeva PP, Additional Professor, Department of Pediatric and preventive Dentistry welcomed the gathering. Dr PG Antony, Additional professor, Department of OMFS gave the felicitation speech. The participants of CDE program consisted mainly of faculty members and post graduates from various Dental colleges in Kerala. The total number of participants were 54.
The scientific session commenced at 10:30 AM and was led by eminent speakers:
FIRST DAY 28-06-2022 (8.30 am-5 pm)
Dr Rupesh Suresh, Professor, Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, Malabar Dental College, handled the topics: -Pulpectomy and Pediatric Rotary Endodontics. An interactive session followed each lecture.
SECOND DAY 29-06-2022 (9 am-5pm)
Dr.Kavita Kumar, Pediatric Dentistry Practitioner spoke on ‘All about Young permanent teeth’.
Post-lunch there was an interactive session which was followed by live demonstration of detailed step by step pulpectomy procedure from access cavity preparation up to obturation including rotary instrumentation with discussion of various clinical situations and modifications.
An examination was conducted by using google form questionnaire. Feedback about the program was also collected by google forms.
The CDE concluded with a valedictory function by 05.00 PM.
First Govt. Dental College in the State to start E-office from 14th March onwards.
The Govt. Dental College is inaugurating the Conscious Sedation Unit - CONSED - the first of its kind in Government sector and various projects on December 13th, 2021 by the Honourable Minister of Kerala for Cooperation and Registration - Sri. V.N Vasavan. The function will be presided over by MLA of Kottayam - Sri Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan.

2nd CDE was conducted by the department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, GDC, Kottayam on 23rd March 2021.
Program started at 9.30 am at examination hall. Welcome address was given by Dr. Anupam Kumar, Prof and HOD of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry, GDC, Kottayam. CDE was inaugurated by Dr. V.T. Beena, Principal of Govt. Dental college, Kottayam. Lecturer were delivered by guest speakers Dr. Murali Krishnan, HOD of Emergency medicine medical college, Kottayam and Dr. Raju Sunny, consultantpediatric dentist at Mitera hospital, Kottayam. Live demonstration of the procedure was done after the lunch session. Around 45 participants attended the program. CDE came to an end at 4.30 pm
